The aim of work package 1 "Transnational Organisation and Capitalisation" was to create the framework conditions for a successful and sustainable use of the economic opportunities brought about by the Rhine valleys' appeal and facilities for long-distance cycling. In order to achieve this the DEMARRAGE team aimed at creating a strong foundation for the project implementation by incorporating the experiences acquired by former transnational collaborations on key themes of DEMARRAGE. Especially topics such as transnational marketing, long-distance cycling and infrastructure were focused on. Please see the "Outputs of the Capitalisation Input Seminar", which took place in June 2010 for further information.
Furthermore, this work package brought forward a long-lasting management structure for the transnational Rhine Cycle Route to ensure that the implemented activities are sustainable and do not stop after project closure.
Another key element in the field of transnational organisation is to ensure international recognition and certification of the Rhine Cycle Route as a coherent and high-quality destination for long-distance cycling. This also requires the recognition of remaining quality gaps in infrastructure and services along the Rhine Cycle Route in order to facilitate the remediation of these gaps locally by the responsible actors in the different regions. At the same time, it is the basis for developing sustainable economic activity and a joint marketing for the Rhine Cycle Route.
